I was stopped because as the railroad lights went on and the dinging went off I continued over the railroad tracks. I was stopped and I did not have my insurance card on me. Anyways, he wrote me a 75 dollar ticket for the railroad and i have to go to court for not having insurance. I had insurance but I did not have my card, so i had it and it was dismissed. But for the railroad offense i was charged $400 dollars. If i don't pay it this way i have to pay 165 with 24hour public service. Is this normal or right to you? I am in Illinois, I had to go to a court in Addison/Wheaton area. This is the only offense on my record. I didn't ask why it jumped from $75 to $400. It was incredibly intimidating in the court house. I was asked my name and so i started to speak and not the judge or the bailiff but another woman told me to " Lower your voice" in an aggressive authoritive voice. I started to say my name again, then she said "I heard you already". She had a very bad attitude. She also said something to the judge about it being better to do my case by state than by the county court system? I couldn't hear the entire conversation. My thing is, is this the normal price for a railroad offense ticket? This is the only offense on my record. The officer wrote $75 dollars to pay for the ticket. Why did it jump to 400? Anyone have any ideas or answers?... Read More »
